New York's Oldest: A Group Portrait

People age 85 and above are one of the city’s fastest growing groups, but they are almost invisible. Six New Yorkers share their stories of love, pain and abrupt change.

New York is not unique in the increasing number of 'old' residents. New Hampshire in general, and at least Deering in particular, is experiencing the same phenomenon as young people leave, unable to find jobs or afford education or both, and retirees arrive and the general adult population lives longer. How we as individuals face our own increasing age is of course dependent upon many factors, some or many of which are beyond our control. All things equal, though, there's a lot of life left in us! A goal of GHSS is to ease and enrich the lives of our Seniors.

I wanted to share this story about six older New York City residents from today's New York Times. I hope you will enjoy it!
